But Five Years Later is an awesome achievement. The girls are back in Rosewood, and are once again involved in another murder mystery, as someone who uses 'emoji's' are stalking them, who we all know is Uber A, but have not yet used the '-A' credentials.
This Uber A wants big A's killer, other wise they'll kill the liars. Be prepared, as this game is a lot more psychotic and twisted that Charles's game!
Very recommended for any PLL fan out there! Sad to think that the next Season, 7, is supposed to be the last. I always start watching a new Season of this unique programme with a mixture of excitement, because it has been so good, and anxiety as to whether they can keep up the same standard.
This, projected to be the penultimate Season of Pretty Little Liars, is not the best ever, but still good. Anyone who does not yet know who Aria, Emily, Hannah and Spencer are, or only knows the books, is best to start with Season 1 to avoid confusion.
After the first few episodes, which are as good as ever, the next few, to me, were not enthralling.
I began to wonder if the series was finally running out of inspiration. The climax of this part of the story comes in a fittingly dramatic episode.
It includes some dramatized scenes but much of it is the main cast and Executive Producers, especially Marlene Griffith who devised the show and Oliver Goldmember, or whatever he is called, discussing the show and the changes that there are about to be to it.
The story then jumps 5 years ahead. The girls have left college and are starting careers. Most have moved away from Rosewood. Some of their long-term romances have ended, as I suppose most High School romances have 5 years on.
When I read in advance about some of the relationship swaps I thought they sounded too improbable, but they are explained and handled in a sufficiently sensitive way to become believable.
For some reason I only really find Ezra Fitz an interesting or convincing character when he is in a relationship with Aria, which he is not by this stage.
However, there are strong hints by the end of the Season that more than one couple may get back together.
A slight weakness of this plot line is that the frequent use of life-like face masks to allow the enemy to appear to be different people is more obviously far-fetched than usual.
Otherwise, the 5 year jump works smoothly, although as it happens mid-Season the characters look scarcely changed apart from hairstyles and slight modifications to the way they dress.
They could not have kept everyone convincingly in school for ever. The actresses playing the girls now get to play characters closer to their real ages.
I do not know whether after all the time that the core four young actresses Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario have played the same characters they feel tired of them, but, if so, it does not really show.
They all continue to be good, as do most of the others playing their friends, mothers etc. As ever, the Season ends dramatically with some new things revealed and some new questions behind the answers.
Overall, if allowed I would give this Season 4 and a half Stars, rather than 5. However, I am still sad to think that the next, Season, 7, is supposed to be the last.
Thank you to everyone who may have contributed to the making of this series. At the moment I am on season 2 but I will gradually work my way through all 7, but it will take time.
Some good characters, with a plot that keeps you intrigued. Time will tell if it is worth watching to the finale.
I really enjoyed this season and was sad when the show came to an end. I would recommend this show to anyone who wants to be sitting on the edge of their seat.
