It's a star vehicle for towering Nicholas Hoult who is far more sexy than a zombie should be. In this case, I thought the ending didn't quite befit the writing that preceded it which is a shame because it was original until it turned into a romance story.
I think it was meant to be profound but I couldn't summarize what it was trying to say. Since there are no such things as zombies, it would be reaching to say it was a tale providing hope for lonely zombies in the world.
Far better to wade through The Passage instead if you want zombie apocalyptic wisdom or an just a cheap "aha" moment. It's a light hearted zombie film.

It's so much more than zombies. Although it is based around zombies, I don't think that being about zombies is that important, its about how things adapt and change, its about how even a zombie can fall in love and how that love changes everything forever.
Nicholas Hoult plays his role perfectly, he is R He only remember his name begins with R and this is his story, about how he found love, about how he was changing, about how beautiful the world is.
Is this because of what he does, or what he is, who knows, only you will be able to decide that. There isn't really much gore in this film, which to me is great, I think other zombie films tend to go way over the top with the blood and gore.
You do see scenes of R munching on brains, after all, you get your victims memory from eating brains, so why not? And there is some shooting, well lots of shooting in places, you have to kill zombies somehow?
Its got a 15 rating and that suits it well. Its could make a good family film if you don't have younger children. The soundtrack goes really well with this film the way music plays an important bit when needed and how it makes you laugh at other times.

A fine, original and engaging movie - if a little slight. Warm and appealing performances although JM is as ever an acquired taste , I would certainly recommend it as an antidote to those Twilight yawn-fests and the like.
This was a really enjoyable take on the zombie movie. Nicholas Hoult is outstanding in the lead role as "R" but to be fair he is well supported by Teresa Palmer who also gives a great performance as "Julie".

It's really easy to hear about the premise of this movie and instantly imagine it to be a cheap wacky movie about a zombie who falls in love, but it's done is clever enough way for it to be pulled off as a respectable concept.
The movie definitely has ever so slightly silly comedy elements, but I don't think they take you away from a believable universe.
The characters are very likeable Especially R and his best friend. The music is really nice and enhances the touching scenes quite nicely. Overall I recommend this movie to anyone.
