Otherwise, you're likely going to find yourself kind of lost. The movie takes place in Tokyo 6 months after the series left off.
Now that she has her memory back, Saya is now back to her real self - a hardened and jaded warrior. In the movie, you'll find that personality-wise Saya comes across as a completely different character.
Although I found myself missing the light-hearted, clumsy persona from the tv series, this actually made a lot of sense.
On hindsight, there always seemed to be a disconnect in the series between Saya the school girl and Saya the killer.
So the plot is pretty basic Saya is in the process of hunting down Fumito when she comes across this group of hackers. Although resistant to the idea at first, she ends up teaming up with them for the sole purpose of using technology to find Fumito so she can finally get her revenge.
You also get a better feel for the real Fumito and get to see how deep his obsession for Saya really runs.
I'm sorry to say that the fighting action was not as hard core as it was in the series. The movie does tie up the loose ends from the series for the most part.
Although I thought the ending was pretty well executed, it was a bit depressing. I'd really really like to see another CLAMP version of the Blood franchise, but the movie didn't leave much room for a sequel though.
Maybe a prequel though. I was quite happy about Watanuki and his shop making an appearance in the movie. Wish there'd have been more scenes between these 2 characters.
They're just awesome! Production values increase, very good looking movie after the series. Saya arrives in Tokyo to take out Fumito for the experiment that to the destruction of her fake village and deaths of her 'friends'.
She finds herself entwined with other plotters against the Fumito's group. Pretty decent balance of exposition and action.

Blood is all a fan of the original movie might expect. Very gory! Damn those rabbits! The story begins on a subway train with a vampire-like monster passing for a human before a fight scene ensues.
That is about all this empty sequel has in common with the original Blood The Last Vampire. Expect no further continuity from that well-made original.
There doesn't appear to be much continuity between Last Dark and the TV series either save for an annoyingly, constantly ingratiating villain.
Last Dark's Saya is reduced to a mere shadow of the original Saya as a near monosyllabic, brooding teen obsessed with revenge - for what is never made clear.
For being experimented on? For being betrayed by a lover? Her character is so one dimensional I couldn't bring myself to care. And why is she constantly in the school girl outfit?
Why does a character with such potential have to be reduced to that fetish? Because this sequel caters to THAT crowd.
The villain's actions make little sense and so leave the story without any plot. In one fight scene Saya, who cannot kill humans, is fighting her way past the villain's main henchman and guards.
They have the advantage. So what does the henchman do? Mutate himself into some monster that she can kill. Towards the end of the movie the main villain's motives look merely nihilistic.
Why is the villain trying to have his hench woman rise to a political office if he intends to ruin the world with a colossal monster first?
The opening fight scene and the exciting car chase gave the movie high hopes in the first 15 minutes. So why then were the monsters and subsequent fights so uninspired.
Were the animators thinking "what's scarier and more demonic than tentacles? The rest of the movie doesn't live up to the opening.
It certainly doesn't live up to Blood The Last Vampire. Not even close. It is horrible compared to what I was hoping to see which was my mistake.
