Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the shakiness in the beginning, and the character arc which was kind of typical.

Brilliant acting not the kind of bad acting you often see in American shark horrors , great graphics the shark looks very realistic , the storyline I felt was very well written, the film is gripping and shows both fear and courage from the main character and in a way the story is actually very inspiring and you really go on a journey with the main character the way it is acted.

So try to forget films like Jaws and Deep Blue Sea, because this Movie is in a league of it's own with a Shark that has only one thing on it's mind Best so far since Jaws, Others are a bit comedy or are lacking something.
This one held my interest for all through the movie so I decided it's worth a rating of A grade plus. The ideas are marvelous with the suspense thrown in as well, a lone swimmer and a hungry shark makes it great who will win.

Any time I hear about a new one coming out, I am hopeful but skeptical. I didn't know much about Blake Lively before this came out, so I wasn't sure she could carry the movie like she has to, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
The movie itself is great - the plotline is somewhat plausible, if not totally believable, but this is a shark movie, so we should be parking our reality-checker pretty much at the door, anyway.
I enjoyed the fast pace leading up to the initial girl-shark encounter and even enjoyed the slower-paced portion where she is just trying to figure out how to tend her wounds thank goodness she's a med student!
The filmography is beautiful - the location lends itself very well to the story, and the creature special effects are pretty darn good. Lots of reviewers question the fairly fantastical ending, and I concur that it just wouldn't happen in real life, but hey, it's a movie and it is both visually impressive and conclusive - no "did the shark survive?
